Two people can ship what looks like a similar-sized box between Singapore and Johor Bahru and get quoted noticeably different prices. It's not random — three factors do almost all the work in setting your rate. Here's exactly how they apply, and how to get an accurate number yourself.
1. Weight — actual or volumetric, whichever is greater
Your rate is based on chargeable weight, not just what your parcel weighs on a scale. Chargeable weight is the greater of:
- Actual weight — what the parcel weighs, full stop.
- Volumetric weight — a weight calculated from the parcel's dimensions, since a large but light box still takes up truck space that could carry something heavier.
This is standard across the courier industry, not a Packargo-specific markup — it's why two boxes of the same weight can be quoted differently if one is noticeably bulkier than the other.
2. Zone — Singapore is one zone, Malaysia is three
Singapore is priced as a single zone. Malaysia is split into three: Johor Bahru, West Malaysia, and East Malaysia. This isn't arbitrary — it reflects genuinely different distances and delivery logistics once a parcel is past the border. A parcel to central JB and a parcel headed further up the peninsula are not the same job, and pricing them identically would either overcharge nearby deliveries or undercharge distant ones.
3. Currency
You can be quoted — and billed — in either SGD or MYR, independent of which country you're actually shipping from. This matters if you're a business that wants consistent currency across your invoicing regardless of shipment direction.
What's already included
Every quote from our rate calculator is door-to-door, with customs handling included for cross-border shipments. There are no fees added after the fact — the number you see is the number you pay.
When you need a custom quote instead
The instant calculator covers standard parcels up to L80 × W60 × H60cm. Above roughly 30kg, or for palletised freight and full container loads, pricing depends on more variables than a simple calculator can capture accurately — those get a dedicated quote from our operations team. See our B2C/B2B shipments page orcontact us directly.
